Motorcycle Repair: speedo/turn signal cancel, electronic speedo, mini speedo

Question
Hi, have a '96 883, someone has installed a mech. drive speedo on and now the turn signals do not self cancel. I believe they are tripped by the 'speed signal output' wire from the original electronic speedo (please verify that?). If that is true, is there an aftermarket mech. drive speedo (mini 2.5 face) that has the output wire included?

Otherwise, my thoughts were to sabotage a factory electronic speedo, wire everything in, break it down to it's smallest size (no face, needle and etc.) and stash it in the headlight (or?) and trick it into thinking it was the speedometer, while using the mech. drive as the actual speedometer.

Not sure if I am on the right track or if there is another alternative? Your thoughts please!

Thank you in advance!

Answer
You are correct on the speed signal output wire from the speedo. As to the mini speedo having the wire, you would have to check with the manufacture ont he one you are looking at. Another thing you can do is install a canceller, made by Badlands, and it will turn them off. It works on time rather than speed
Good luck and happy riding
