Motorcycle Repair: 1976 CB550K Carb malfunction, rich thanks, carbs

Question
QUESTION: My two outside carbs are leaking fuel from the lower line, I believe that is the reservoir. The inner carb seam to be functioning fine. What do I need to do? Can you help?

ANSWER: The carbs are leaking because the needles and seats are not sealing properly.  It could be there's dirt coming from the tank such as rust flakes. Or the seats could be just worn out.  You will need to rebuild those two outside carbs and see why the seat aren't sealing.

QUESTION: Rich, Thanks so much. I am mechanically enclined, however I have never attempted to rebuild a carb. Is this something I can accomplish or should I pay a professional?

Answer
The hardest part of the job is getting them off.  Try tapping the float bowls with the plastic handle of a screwdriver and see if they don't stop leaking.  Sometimes it just needs a little help loosening things up.  If you have to rebuild them, it's a pretty straight forward job.  I would recommend you get a manual to help with settings and adjustments.

Good luck
