Motorcycle Repair: 1987 flhs, starter solenoid, instrument cluster

Question
QUESTION: I have been working on this bike for several weeks. It started when the starter solenoid took a dump, I've replaced that. Then  I could not get power at the switch so i found  a break in the wire under the instrument cluster. I fixed that replaced the breaker under the seat and got bike up and running yesterday. Problem is when I checked voltage it seemed fine bike was running, today tried to start again and got nothing. I checked voltage at battery, starter, etc.. I get 12 volts when bike is in off position, when I turn switch I'm lucky if I get .70 volts I'm stumped on this one?

ANSWER: When you say you are getting .70 volts, where are you testign to get this?

QUESTION: on the battery

Answer
If your voltage is dropping that low, the you have a grounded wire somewhere and its killing the battery. I would disconnect the breakers and check the battery, if its up then connect each one and check the voltage after the connection. that will help you determine where the break is
Good luck and happy riding
