Motorcycle Repair: qa50 clutch cover install, ball bearings, nutral

Question
My 1970 QA 50 wouldn't shift into nutral so I took the clutch cover off and found the shifter arm (the L shaped one) was broken and half laying in the bottom of the case.I got a new arm and put it on(not sure if it's right).Tryed to but the cover back on a lot of differene times with different setting but it doesn't seem to shift right. There must be a trick to alligning everything up.I took it to three different shops and they were no help, also bought a Cylmer service manual that didn't help either. So I was hoping you could help me out. Thanks Jerry

Answer
Line the shift lever up so the end points to the center of the clutch.  The little cam with the ball bearings that has the notch rides on the end of the shift lever.  When you press the foot lever, it moves the clutch lifter with the ball bearings and releases the clutch.

Hope that makes sense.
