Motorcycle Repair: Honda Motorcycle, honda gold wing, honda motorcycle

Question
Hi Rich,
I have a Honda Gold Wing with the flat six and I recently decided to race it. Well, I took it to the drag strip and made a few runs, but began to notice that the engine was beginning to run rather rough. Soon, I had a hard time getting it to start. I am going to rebuild the engine and transmission. Is there anything that I should look for that could be related to my problem? And do you know how to remove the engine from the bike's frame? Finally, could you go through a lay-mans' terms breif explanation of how to get the heads off? Any help that you could provide would be helpful! Thanks!

Answer
Scott, I could tell you how to get the heads off but it would take a pretty long e-mail to do it.  I'd recommend you want to get a manual before tackling that project.  Your performance problem could be pistons, carbs or ignition so I can't give you much better advice without more info.  The motor comes out pretty easily but you'll need a couple of friends to help balance the engine while another one manages the floor jack.

Rich
