Motorcycle Repair: 1987 FXR oil leak, opprotunity, mike thanks

Question
Mike:  thanks for the opprotunity to write.  i have an '87 FXR with 16k miles on it (been in a shed for 10 years)and am getting it going again. i had the carb rebuilt and got it running only to see (200 miles recent miles) a small oil leak below my foot shifter on the left side (appear to be coming from right above where chrom case meets the aluminum.  also, my rocker-box is blowing a few drops everynow and then on my exhaust on my right side.  what do i need to to now or down the road.  they both just started happening.

Thx
-M

Answer
Probably the hardest thing on a bike is sitting that long. the gaskets get old and dry out and dont hold very well.
the leak on the left is probably the primary gasket and it needs replaced. the rockers leak is the rocker box gasket and it needs replaced. If it were me and since its getting on winter, I would go ahead and regasket the motor so you dont have problems in the spring
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
