Motorcycle Repair: Starting the motorcycle, harley davidson sportster 1200, harley davidson sportster 1200 custom

Question
Hi Mike, I own a 2001 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom.  Unfortunately, due to my job and I am not able to ride as often as I would like, so basically the bike sits in the garage.  I only have 4,100 miles on it.  My question is:  Is it a good idea to at least start the bike on a daily / weekly / monthly basis and let it idle for a while.  I am not sure if this is good or bad the the motor or battery as a whole.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
The bad thing about starting the bike and letting it idle is the motor does nto get hot enough. When you ride the bike and shut it down it will draw a little moisture. When you start the bike and ride it the oil get hot enough to drive the moisture out.
Get a battery tender and hook it up and use it to keep your battery charged. A tender will charge the battery and when it is up to where it should be it shuts off, then turn s back on again when the battery need a charge
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
