Motorcycle Repair: Yamahaxj750 maxim, voltmeter, electrical system

I have fixed this bike up after it sat for 6yrs. It seems after it gets hot the entire electrical system shuts down. When I turn the key on I have no lights,horn,starter. It seems completly dead. What might cause this?

Only way to track this down is to put a voltmeter on it and take readings at various points. You probably have a corroded connector somewhere which is sensitive to temperature. I would get the wiring diagram from the service manual and use that as a guide.

Also, you might take a quick look at the fuses and make sure they are all seated properly.
