QUESTION: Hey Mike , new question  I just had my motor rebuilt ,had a bad connecting rod , got new S&S rods ,KB pistons 40 over,Andrews cam .450, jims lifters. the wrist pins would not fit in the S&S rods ,had to be rimed but he didn't use a jig.  on the ride home about 3 miles front exhaust push rod came lose , after readjusting I put about 70 miles. I let it cool all the way down, when I started it the next day I had a lifter noise ,took it back to the shop was told I my hydraulics were bad ( didn't come with the lifters ) got new hydraclics , still had a noise , he pulled the heads had them checked , ok , but was told pistons  were gaulled , they said it got to hot because not enough oil pressure and I should have replaced the oil pump ,the old one worked but was told not enough pressure , I got a new S&S oil pump, pistons 50 over now, and he is getting ready to put it back together ,but now he has a jig to rim the new bushings. question is could he have messed up the first bushings and made the pistons gaulled ?

ANSWER: I have a few questions. First, the wrist pin is a standard size for the S&S rods, so what did he have to ream? If he didnt have a jig, how did he ream them? On the lifters, did they just replace the tappets only, the first time? How much oil pressure were you showing with the old oil pump? Did he bother to check the pressure after he rebuilt it on startup the first time?

QUESTION: He said the bushings were to tight ,I thought that they should fit right out of the box , he rimed it with a T wrench I think , and yes they only replaced the tappets the first time, he didn't check the pressure but could see the oil pumping in the tank , and pulled the cylinder oil lines  off had oil pumping through them ,   should he have to rim the new bushings for the new wrist pins ?? I am putting Drag pistons back in

Answer
If they were to tight, then they would have to be honed. If they got honed to much it could cause your pistons to gall and will keep doing it. Usually, they are ok right out of the box. Your pistons could have galled if the cylinder was honed to tight.
On the oil pump, if you had oil returning you were probably ok on the pressure, but the only way to be sure is to put a pressure gage on the pump. He should have done that after the rebuild.
Good luck and happy riding
