Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki GSX1100F Head Gasket repair, head gasket repair, suzuki gsx1100f

Hey Jim,
I have a 1988 Suzuki Katana 1100 which is in need of a Head Gasket repair. Just wondering, what else should I look at doing while I have my head off? I've never done a head gasket before, but it looks pretty straight forward in the manuals. Along with that, what other seals/gaskets should I replace?

Any help would be much appreciated!

It depends on how many miles are on it but you can also look at:

valve seals
valve guide honing
valve reconditioning (machine shop or valve lapping)
piston rings
cylinder honing

These all require special tools but may be worth it.

When replacing the head gasket you should also replace the base gasket as that will likely be damaged as part of removing the head. There are rubber o-ring seals which could probably be replaced as part of this.
