Motorcycle Repair: 81 Sportster Rear Wheel, shims, spacers

1981 Sportster Cast Rear wheel
I replaced the bearing & races. If i try to tighten the axle the wheel locks up. I'v checked for shims but non are listed for 79 - 81. Only spacers. How do I determine which space to use?

what you need to do is remove the wheel and install the alxe with some spacers so you can tighten it like on the bike. If its to tight, then you have to shim it. You must have .002 play in the bearing or it will seize or to much it will wobble
