Motorcycle Repair: Coolant leak on a 1978 goldwing GL1000, radiator pressure tester, honda goldwing

Question
Hi Rich:

I have a 1978 honda goldwing GL1000.  The other morning I went to start the
bike and noticed an antifreeze drip down by the sidestand.  While I was
looking around for the source I noticed antifreeze on top of the cylinder head
between the head and block.  The bike does smoke white smoke because the
bike runs rich because the carbs need to be rebuilt.  I do not smell any
burning antifreeze though.

Any Suggestions?

Answer
Could be the headgaskets are leaking but more likely it's an o-ring on the thermostat pipe that goes between the two cylidnerheads. If you rent a radiator pressure tester from Autozone, you can pressurize the cooling system and find the leak quickly.
