Motorcycle Repair: 1978 650 Yamaha Special, electrical drain, car batteries

Question
1. How do I know if the choke is on or off? When I push the lever down the pin goes up. When I pull the lever up the pin goes down. Is the choke off when the pin is down bloocking Air/fuel?
2. This bike seems to have an electrical drain to the battery even when turned off. Is this common?

Answer
Can't help you with the choke question as I don't have experience with these.

All batteries drain when left unattended. Car batteries are big so they take months to drain. Motorcycles use small batteries which can drain in weeks. If the battery has trouble holding charge for more than a week I would replace it. I also installed and use a Battery Tender on my bikes to keep the batteries fresh and to extend their life.
