Motorcycle Repair: Replacing Rocker cover gasket, rocker cover gasket, motorcycle mechanic

Question
I have a 1998 FLSTC Evo.  Noticed oil leaking from rear rocker cover.  What are the steps necessary to replace the gasket(s)?  Should I do front and rear?  The vent/breather tube has been relocated from air cleaner to under bike with longer hose.  It is not clogged. I am a beginner motorcycle mechanic with basic skills, common sense and decent tools. THANK YOU

Answer
If you are planning on working on your own bike you should purchase a service manual. It will really help you with repairs.
When changing the rocker cover gaskets you should do both.
Drain and remove the gas tank. Remove the 4 bolts holding the top cover and remove the top cover and the center ring. If the leak is between the bottom cover and the head then remove it by removing the bolts and then slide the pushrods out. Make sure you mark them so you know where they go back. install the gaskets and put it back in reverse order. Once you are done you have to rotate the motor so the front lifter is up all the way and let it sit for about 15 minutes. This will bled the lifter. Do this for each lifter
Good luck and happy riding
