Motorcycle Repair: hot harley, starter solenoid, starter relay

Mike, I would like to know if heat will affect the starter? My 95 softail starts fine most of the time but after a long ride the starter only clicks. Let it set for a while and it turns over fine. Does my starter need replaced?

First, check at the battery to make sure the bike is fully charging. At 2000 RPMs you should be getting around 13.5. If its charging ok then check at the wire on the starter coming from the starter relay. When you hit the starter button do you get power at the wire? If not then the starter solenoid in the starter is bad
