Motorcycle Repair: 05 yzf-600r issues, yamaha yzf600, yamaha service

Question
my moto sat for 2 weeks without me starting it.  When i tried to ride it would lunge in first gear until i got it over 5k rpms.  next day it would die when i put it into first (or anygear) immediately.  a month passed and i replaced the battery since it had died.  The bike started, i could put it in gear but had the orignial problem of the moto lunging in first  with the choke off and when i tried to start it the following day the battery was dead? obviously at first i thaughtt it was fuel related but now after the last attempt its probably electrical  or both?any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Jason...

Is the new battery actually dead or are you assuming it is cuz the bike is acting like it has a dead battery? You need to check the condition of the battery first. I'm also not sure what you mean by "lunge"... but if you mean the bike is coughing and sporadic (powerwise), then you may nave two different issues occuring at the same time. There is a possibility that both issues ARE related in that the Yamaha YZF600 has a relay unit under the seat. This relay unit is a liason between the safety/starting features of the bike and the ignition system. It is notorious for going bad and when it does it can have many different symptoms... I would start by having a Yamaha service center check this relay unit. Update me with the results Jason!!! Good luck and ride safe!!
