Motorcycle Repair: bike want start, venturi tube, float bowl

my bike want start and if i drop a little gas in the carb. it starts and then cuts off. Is my problem the carbs.

Hi Richard...

Well... I can't say for sure the problem is in the carbs. Is fuel getting from the gas tank to the carbs? At the bottom of each carb is a screw that when loosened allows fuel to drain from the float bowl. If gas comes out of those drains, then you are getting fuel to the carbs. If not, then the fuel petcock may be to blame. If fuel IS getting to the carbs, but the bike will only start when accelerant is added to the venturi tube of the carb, then yeah.. I would say your carbs need to be removed and cleaned.
