Motorcycle Repair: 1978 Shovelhead, netural, clutch

I just purchased this bike and it seemed to run fine. I was riding today and turned right. The engine died. I restarted with no problem, but since then when I engage the clutch the engine dies. It idles and accelerates fine. It is just when I engage the clutch that it dies.

Ride down the road. When you pull the clutch to shift it always dies? If you ride down the road nad put it in netural and pull the clutch does it die? When you are stiing still and put it in first, does it feel like the bike is trying to pull foward with the clutch in?
