Motorcycle Repair: alternator removal, mechanical experience, stator

Question
Hi Rich,How do I remove the starter/stator from my 1985 honda gwGL1200.Do I have to remove the motor?I am poor! Can I do this myself?  Thank you so much for any help----Bear

Answer
It's a lot easier to work on it if you pull the motor.  It's buried in the back side of the engine.  I've pulled the, exhaust, rear wheel and swingarm and changed one once so you can can get to it but I'd probably pull the motor if I was going to do it.

Well, someone with basic mechanical experience a good set of tools and some helpful friends could probably get it done.  You will certainly need help getting the motor out.  It's real heavy. It's not too difficult or complicated but it's not trivial either.
