Motorcycle Repair: about the hot start, plastic flange, flange nut

Question
i have a kawasaki 2008 250f. I just bought it last week from a private party. They said they never use the hot start. I tryed to use it and its stuck. We checked the wire it moves freely it seems the plunger is stuck in the crab. How do i get the plunger out to clean it?

Answer
Hi Josh...

I'm not intimately familar with the model bike you have, but that shouldn't matter... the choke plunger is usually held down with a plastic flange nut (black in color). You will need either a 12mm or 14mm wrench. Loosen that flange nut and the plunger can be pulled out. If the plunger resists being pulled out, spray a lubricant or penetrant on it and be careful not to break the top of the plunger off, It's made of soft metal (brass I think) and is easy to break.

Good Luck Josh!!!
