Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha YZF600 1997 eletrical problem, good luck jack, starter solenoid

Question
My motorcycle was parked for 4 years. It did worked few times after those years, but stopped right after I noticed some sparks from inside the ignition. I fixed the ignition but now the bike doesn't want to work. There is light in the panel and it makes a sound when I press the start.
Can you please help me?

Answer
Sergio...

First, get the Clymer manual for your bike. The YZF600 has a complicated electrical system. Once you have the manual, start by checking the easy stuff, the clutch switch on the left handlebar, the kickstand switch, etc... based on the fact that you say there is a "sound" when you hit the starter button, I assume you mean a click can be heard. You may have a bad starter solenoid. And one more thing. Most Yamaha street bikes have a relay box under the seat. It's larger than a normal relay, but smaller than the ignitor box. When these suckers go bad, they can cause all kinds of starting problems. They are directly involved in the starting circuit and take cues from the safety switches (clutch switch, kickstand, neutral light). That relay is wired to the ignitor box and is notorious for going bad.

Hope this info helps you Sergio.... Good luck!!!
