Motorcycle Repair: 1982 CM450E Honda (6 up!) Used 1st bike, clutch lever, old bikes

Question
Feels like clutch has slipped, never gets completely out of first gear with clutch lever pulled in tight. Also, while coasting down from higher gear, there's a jingling noise that is NOT in time with the wheels nor engine RPM, but it does slow as bike slows with clutch disconnected. Is this a problem developing? What is it? Also, feels like right break pedal hangs up momentarily then "pops" past to apply breaking.  Can I/should I attempt to service any of these items?  Finally, the round headlight is permanently wired on bright... but I'd like a brighter beam. What do you suggest?  Thanks for any help. I can't find any reference to a CM450E anyplace. Was this a rare model?

Answer
Well Kirk, the clutch may just need adjustment.  I could explain it but you'll be much better off if you invest in a manual.  The jingling noise is probably the drive chain.  Make sure you keep it well lubed with a good chain lube and make sure you keep it adjusted so you don't run the risk of throwing a chain.  You can put the bike on the center stand and watch the brake system as you apply the brake.  It should not be hanging up so you'll want to make sure that it's working properly.

As far as working on the bike, I highly recommend you try to do the work yourself.  It's good for a rider to understand how his bike works.  Old bikes will leave you stranded sometime.  It's just the odds of riding an older bike and if you know how it works, you'll be more likely to figure out what it is and find a way to limp home.

The headlights have three wires.  The blue is high beam, the white is low beam and the green is ground. That year had a seal beam so there's not much you can do to make it brighter but you can re-aim it so you can see further down the road.

No, that model wasn't particularly rare.
