Motorcycle Repair: 85 Sportster, remov, screw

I have an '85 sportster and i believe the gap in the points closed up on me. It's happened before, but i wasn't there to see how it was adjusted. how do i get the points back to the right gap.

Your points should be set at .018. remov ethe cover on the points. You will see a rub block on the points. On the lobe where the rub block sits you will see two places where the points are caused to open. One is wider than the other. You want to rotate the motor so the rub block is on the skinny one. Close to the center of the points you will see a screw that holds them down. Loosen the screw and slide the points open so you have the gap you need. then tighten the screw and recheck the gap and your set
