Motorcycle Repair: 2001 sporster transmission, independent shops, taking a chance

I am getting a chattering noise in 3td and 4th gear. What could be causing it? Can it lock up when I'm riding it? How much could it cost me to fix it? Thanks

You noise might be a bearing going out. I wouldnt ride the bike until you get it repaired. You are taking a chance of damaging the trans more. I am not going to be able to give you a cost. Prices are different all over the country as well as different from dealers and independent shops
