Motorcycle Repair: Honda XL250S, volt electrical system, rare thanks

Question
Hi, I have a Honda XL250S with a CB250RS engine fitted. I have replaced the generator with the proper XL250S one and am getting power when using the kick start. I also get a response from the Pulser to the CDI unit but no spark at the plug. Do I have to use the Pulser unit and pickup from the XL engine. I know this is a big ask but any help would be appreciated. Good useable XL engines are rare.
Thanks
Martin

Answer
Hi Martin...

Umm.... A Honda XL250S is a single cylinder engine that runs on a 6 volt electrical system. The CB250 (NightHawk) is a twin cylinder that runs on a 12v system. Let's assume that I have not misread something here and you fitted a Nighthawk motor into an XL250. In order to use the nighthawk engine, you will need to also use the NightHawks alternator, CDI, pulser coils and ignition coils, along with all the other electricals. Does this help?
