Motorcycle Repair: 1975 Honda Cb200T Idles high, hand throttle, air leak

Question
Hi there, My honda(which I purchased recently after sitting for years) Idles crazy High. 5000rpms! No adjusting of the air/fuel mix screw or idle screw cures it. I have disassembled the carbs cleaned them up and still no change. The jets seem free of gunk as I can see through them. I know little about bikes so I'm learning as I go. I'd sure appreciate some tips or help... Could an air leak between the carbs and the sleeves to the engine be an issue? Thanks for your time!

Answer
Dustin, I don't think were looking for an air leak.  It's probably throttle cable adjustment.  Take the air cleaners off and look inside the carbs.  Do the slides come all the way down when the idle speed screws are backed all the way out? There's a notch on the inlet side of the slides so it can be difficult to tell sometimes but you should be able to hear the slide click as they bottom out.
If not, the cable adjustment on the top of the carbs or on the hand  throttle need to be adjusted.  The cable should be adjusted so you have about 1/8 of and inch of freeplay in the throttle before the slides start to lift.  Adjust the two cables into the tops of the carbs so that both slides start to move at exactly the same time when you twist the hand throttle.  Then adjust both idle screws in until you just start to see the slides lift. Turn the idle screws in equal amounts until you get the idle speed you want.
