Motorcycle Repair: 1981 Honda CM200 oil leak, honda cm200, starter clutch
Crankcase cover-left s
Hello, hoping you can help. I have a 1981 Honda CM200, excellent condition with one problem; major oil leak on the left side crank case cover, the one that holds the magneto. I have the gasket and I'm putting it in, but here's the problem; the cover itself has what look like an oil galley that lets the oil dribble out. It's rather odd, it not cracked or broken, but looks like it was machined that way. Am I missing something here? The new gasket won't do a thing to help plug it. I attached a photo and thanks so much for taking the time to read.
Regards,
Dennis

Answer
Dennis, I can't explain why there's a passage there.  I don't recall any special plug or anything.  That cover should have oil in it to cool the alternator and lubricate the starter clutch.  I'd seal it up with silicone or something.
