Motorcycle Repair: 79 CX500 C wont start, local bike shop, cx 500

Question
Hi, I have a 1979 CX 500 that I purchased about 3 days ago. I bought it from a very nice guy about 30 miles from here. I test rode it around and it seemed fine. This bike is kind of a cafe racer project, when I purchased it the exhaust was totally off.

Anyways, I rode it to a friends house and it was very hard to cold start after awhile the battery died. We jump started it and I began riding it home, I was going about 30 and the back tire locked up and I slid to a stop.

I brought it back to my friends house and we let it sit for a day. The next day we bought a new battery and put it in. Now when I try to start the bike all I hear is a click. I pulled the starter and took it to my local bike shop and they said it was good. I noticed when I held down the starter the starter has a magnetic current. I really like the look of this bike and want to get it running again. Thanks!

Answer
If I had to guess, I'd say the motor is locked up.  It sounds like the starter is working but the crankshft isn't able to turn so the solenoid just clicks when you push the button. Try rotating the crankshaft by hand with a wrench.  If I remember correctly, there's an access port on the alternator cover that you can get to the retaining bolt on the alternator so you can turn the crank.
