Motorcycle Repair: starting issue, spark plug wires, spark plug wire

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have a 1994 Harley Fat boy that has recently started to be difficult to start. The bike sometimes starts with no problem and at other times all I hear is a click. Battery is new, starter was replaced in 2005 after hurricane Rita(the bike was caught in the tidal surge of Rita, the engine was taken apart and all fluids replaced along with any other obvious ruined parts most of which were minor with the exception of the starter). The lights always work and are bright even when engine won't crank. I have cleaned the start\stop switch on the right handle bar, checked for loose wires or connections and found none. I do have one spark plug wire(the short one)that seems to be burnt looking on the end that goes into the coil. Could this cause my problem or should I look for something else? Please help!

ANSWER: Probably need to change the starter relay.
Good luck and happy riding

QUESTION: Changed starter relay and spark plug wires. Still hear click. Sounds like the click is in the starter. Any other advice.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
make sure your battery is good and charged and check both ends of the battery cables for good contact. At the starter, check the wire that is from the starter relay. When you hit the starter button, are you getting power to the starter solenoid on the starter?
