Motorcycle Repair: ignition coil, accel coils, duty coil

Question
1987-HD-FLT Any info why an after market coil would go bad in 14 months.  Actually, let's say within 2,000 miles of riding it. I have a year old OEM battery. The ignition module was change to Crane Hi-4E (proper set up) and a RevTech Hi Perf coil.  Timing was set. It has been running like a champ to this point, no issues.  My last ride, all of a sudden it started misfiring(thought it was due to 93 Octane used last fill up), revved it up going down interstate and just misfired repeatedly until eventually giving out(backfired like crazy). Checked for spark using spark tester. No spark.  The coil is mounted under the tank, over the front cylinder.  Could this location contribute to opening prim/sec windings?  Is their a heavy duty coil that i could use?

Answer
Coils are like anything other electrical part. In time they will fail. As to why it only lasted 14 months, I cant tell you. Personnally I use Accel coils and have great luck with them and they have a warrenty on them. Check with the company for your company and see if they have a limited warrenty on their coil.
the location for the coil is fine.
Good luck and happy riding
