Motorcycle Repair: 93 Ninja, 2nd gear problems, shift fork, syncronizer

Question
Hello,
I am considering buying a 93 Ninja.. The bike has one main problem, it will not shift into 2nd gear.  The current owner has been shifting from 1st to 3rd.  Would shifting from 1st to 3rd damage the transmission?  Could you give me some idea of the repair cost?  Is there any repair that I could try instead of taking it to a shop?  I would appreciate any advice you could give me..

Answer
HELLO DAVID,

I WOULD SAY YOU PROBABALY HAVE A BENT SHIFT FORK OR IF YOU ARE SHIFTING AND IT JUMPS OUT OF GEAR THEN YOU HAVE A BAD SYNCRONIZER IF YOU CAN SHIFT IT BUT IT DOES FEEL LIKE ITS GOING INTO GEAR THEN YOU COULD PROBABLY HAVE A BAD 2ND GEAR OR POSSIBBLY A BROKEN GEAR . BUT SHIFTING FROM 1 TO3 WONT HURT IT IF YOU DO IT LIKE A NORMAL BIKE RIDER NOT LIKE THE DRAGRACER IDIOTS THAT USUALLY THE GEAR THAT GET BROKEN THE MOST 2ND
I HOPE I HAVE BEEN HELPFULL GOD BLESS YOPU GOOD LUK IM HERE IF YOU NEED HELP OK.
