Motorcycle Repair: Honda CX500, air fuel mixture, cx500 custom

Question
I bought a CX500 Custom.  This bike has sat for several years. I drained fuel tank, cleaned fuel filter/screen, pulled carbs- cleaned main and secondary jet.  I cleaned the float valve needle and float. All carb work was completed with the diagrams and instructions from Clymer Service and repair book.  This manual only described the items for the carb listed above.  The bike starts very easy and runs good until 4500rpms.  After 4500rpms bike loses power and sputters constantly.  Air filter has been cleaned and spark plugs have been changed to new.  Seems that when in neutral and not warmed up it runs smoother at higher rpms.  After bike warms up is when it begins to cut out and sputter. What should I try next?  Any ideas??

Answer
Lee, try appling a little choke when it's acting up.  If the bike starts to run better, the air fuel mixture is too lean and the carbs need some more work.  It's possible the float levels are not set correctly or the slides aren't raising properly.

If the bike runs worse with the choke on, the bike is running too rich and the float level is probably set too high. If there's no change the problem is ignition and you have a spark leak somewhere.
