Motorcycle Repair: cut out, polaris 500, fuel filter

Question
I have recently purchased a used polaris 500 sportsman. The problem I have is,the engine cuts out and surges when the throttle is opened over half.I cleaned and adjusted the carb, checked the ignition timing, adjusted the valves, and replaced the drive belt. Also some popping from the carb.can be heard if the throttle is held open. The cam is slightly worn but the valves seem to operate with proper lift.could a clutch problem cause this vehicle to operate in this manner?I have had several opinions as to what the problem could be all have checked out ok.Also the plunger in the carb. is working.Any advice or hints would be greatly appreciated

Answer
hello blaine .

sorry i took so long getting to yur answer out of state due to death in family. It sounds to me like maybe you have a fuel filter problem or possibbly a carburator problem like the butterfly in the carb is out of adjustment .Try taking off the air cleaner and give the bike full throttle  and look insidwe the carb to seeif the butterfly is opened all thw way.f it is partially closed theirs yur problem, you are over accelerating causing the butterfly to close beyond the opening point of acceleration .if so then i would adjust the tjhrottle cable so that upon acceleration the butterfly opens clearly and does not try to close.i hope this helps you .please let me know im here if you need more help.

P.S please leave feedback for me . god bless
