Motorcycle Repair: vapor lock, sportster ironhead, vapor lock

I have a 1980 sportster ironhead with a S&S carb. when the bike gets hot it seems to vapor lock, it continues to run until it gets turned off, and then it won't start again until it cools down. Maybe and hour

Answer
First, after you shut if off and it wont start, pull a spark plug and see if you are getting spark. Also, look downt he throat of the carb and see if you are getting a squirt of fuel when you twist the throttle. Then, put your hand over the front of the carb and turn the bike over for a sec. Did the bike suck your hand to the carb and did you get fuel?
