Motorcycle Repair: 76 ironhead wrist pin bushings, aces and eights, mason ohio

Question
mike, i am having to do a total topend rebuild on my 76 iron head due to the front cylinder chugging blue smoke and spitting oil out of the pipe. after tearing down front and rear, i found that the front piston had some problems. the top ring was seized and would not move, and the second ring was missing about  3/4 inch chunck and thrust side of piston scuffed badly. pulled wrist pin and piston off. the wrist pin bushing had spun almost 180* wich blocked off the oil slot.i had jugs redone .20 over w/new pistons ,rings etc...     can i use a small 3 stone hone to ream bushings to fit pins or is it a have to take to shop thing? aces and eights in mason ohio wants 240.00 to do it  and the actual ream tool from j&p cycle wants 189.00.   i have a caliper to gauge tolerance, just need to know if the tool i have would work if i take it real slow  not to over size it.    thanks mike

Answer
If the wrist pin bushing has turned the hole for the bushing in the rod migth be to big for the new bushing, so you woould have to mic it. You can put in the new bushing, rod is not oversized, and hone it if you are careful, but you will need a bore mic to check the sizing. A caliber will nto be accurate enough
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
