Motorcycle Repair: 75 ironhead sporty problems, port huron michigan, metal shavings

Question
I just bought a 75 xlh 1000 and when I got it started something was slapping in the motor. I immediatley shut it off and when I checked the oil I seen some metal flakes. so I then decided to take the motor out and pull the oil pump off because I know they go bad and I thought the gears or shaft may have been bad. unfortunately the pump was good and now the problem is further in the motor. the cam cover had a lot of tiny shavings that were steel. I am now thinking it may be a cam bearing. the bike only has 14000 org miles and is in mint condition and the last time it was started (2yrs ago) it ran perfect. so now I am trying to pinpoint the problem and also find a good mechanic to go through the whole motor. I live just outside of port huron michigan and if you can help me out I would be greatfull.
thanks for your time

Answer
Metal shavings are not good. The motor will have to be torn down and inspected to see what the problem is. What you are going to have to do is start at the top and work your way down until you find the problem. Right now it could be anything
If you want to give me a call I would be glad to give you a estimate, but as to mechs in your area, I dont know any
Good luck and happy riding
