Motorcycle Repair: 1972 Honda cb350, turn signal switch, light lenses

Question
Hey Rich,
I'm working on a 72 cb350 and I'm  having a problem with my tail light.  When I turn the lights on the tail light does not come on.  The front and rear brake switches are working and the light turns on when the brakes are applied.  The light comes on when the ignition switch is placed in park as well.  The left handle bar switch is not the correct, but everything works.  My question is, is it possible that the incorrect left switch is causing the problem?  And also, are the turn signals supposed to light up when you turn the lights on?  Right now they only light up when you engage the turn signal switch.  I ask this because on the wiring diagram it shows the back right turn signal and the tail light sharing a connection.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
You are testing my recall capability.  I'm not sure what year Honda started using running lights.  Take one of the turn light lenses off and count the number of elements.  If there are two elements in the bulb,  the bike had running lights and the lights should come on when the headlight is on. The left switch controls the power to all the lights so if it's not correct it could be the problem.  The circuit to the rear light is working or it wouldn't light up when you put the park light on.  So the connection in in the headlight may be the problem or maybe the switch.

Good luck
Rich
