Motorcycle Repair: 1982 Honda CB750-f, honda cb750, velocity stacks

Question
Rich,

My dad and I just bought a 1982 Honda CB750-f. We need to clean the carbs but are having an extremely hard time getting them off because the air box and everything else behind it is in such a tight space it almost seems impossible to get out.

So to get the carbs off we need to get the air box off, and thst the main problem. Is there an easier way to get them off, they need to be cleaned badly, it seems they are causing the bike no to start because they aren't letting any gas through. Any sort of help is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Nope, those are tight.  You can pull the velocity stacks off or push them back into the air box to make a little more room.  They are probably pretty hard by now but I don't know of any other way.  I suppose you could remove all the motor mounts an roll the engine forward to gain clearance.
