Motorcycle Repair: Cables on a 1978 Honda Hawk Hondamatic, speedometer drive, honda hawk

Question
Okay, fairly simple question, I think...I'm a girl trying to do some basic bike repair. My speedo cable broke, and when I bought the bike, the choke cable needed replacing (it currently is a janky, cheap aftermarket choke cable that gets stuck...the former owner was going to replace but didn't have time before he sold it to me).

How do I replace both of these?

Thanks!

Answer
The speedometer cable is easy.  There's a screw holding the cable in the speedometer drive on the front axle. Remove the screw and pull out the drive cable.  Slide the new cable into the old sleeve and replace the end of the cable in the speedometer drive and replace the screw. There's a slot in the cable and a drive tab in the drive that you have to line up or it want go back together correctly.

The choke cable is a little more difficult. You have to remove the tank and then you should be able to see how the cable is routed and how it is anchored at both ends.  The pull end is up near the handlebars and there's a bracket it mounts on.  Loosen the large plastic  nut on the top of the cable and slide the cable into the holder.  Route the cable to the opposite side of the steering head and then down the side of the frame to the carbs. Be careful not to over tighten the nut on the upper choke cable or it will break the new cable and you won't be happy.

Good luck
