Motorcycle Repair: 1986 VN750, bikebandit com, kawasaki motorcycle

Question
How do you remove the right engine cover, I need to replace the gasket. I have removed the brake mechanism and all the bolts seems to be hanging up on something.

Answer
Lenny... good thing that MrHonda knows that a VN750 is a Kawasaki!

for illustrations. See Engine covers section.

If you have all the bolts out, the cover is being held by the gasket material and/or the dowel locating pins at the corners. The pins can get rusted in place, despite they are sunk into aluminum and can get quite a grip on either piece they are inserted into.

Use a plastic mallet and/or a thin gasket scraper to get the cover to move a little and then gently pry around the edges until it comes loose.
