Motorcycle Repair: electrical trouble, electrical trouble, starter relay

Question
I have a 1973 sportster.  I replaced the selanoid last year.  Bike will start on occasion but other times, power comes to bike but you try to start and nothing, just dead then you hear a clicking or popping sound almost like a breaker.  How do I fix or find problem.  Dying to go for a ride.

Answer
The popping you are hearing is probably a breaker. I would start by replacing it. If it still keeps popping then you have a short in the wiring, so you will have to trace it out from the breaker, to the starter button to the starter relay to the solenoid and then to the starter
Good luck and happy riding
