Motorcycle Repair: rake degree for triple tree, harley sportster, fork tubes

Question
try to give as much info..1978 harley sportster 1000 xl..tubes 39 inch..approx 26 inches from axle to "imaginary" line straight down from frame..0 (zero) degree triple tree..trying to rake out bike ..but my frame is at a hard pitch off the ground..from the back bottom of the frame to the ground is 8.5 inches and the front bottom of the frame is 11 inches off the ground???  what degree triple tree would bring it level or safe with a 19-21 front tire.

Answer
What you need to do it first block bike so it will sit level without the front tire and the frame is lever or where you want it. the rear tire need to be touching the ground. You can use a inexpensive bike lift for this. Now you can run a stringline from the center of the triple tree to the floor at the angle you want. You would have to measure up for either the 19" or 21" tire, whichever one you are planning on using. Once you have the line run, then measure the angle of the string, with a protractor, and it will give you the angle you need in degrees. You may also have to change the length of your fork tubes to do what you want to do.
Good luck and happy riding
