Motorcycle Repair: 1998 Valkyrie Iginition, wire colors, park position

Question
Lost my keys.  Dealer says he can not help but will sell me a new module for $140.00US.  I have the ignition off and on the back are two torx type screws. Are they tamper proof to be drilled out?  Can I just cut the five wires to remove it and wire it back up.  A lock smith says he can make a key from the old lock.  Is there another way to handle all this. Everyone down here (chicago) is making this way more complicated than it should be. IF you have an answer you are one in a hundred as that is how many people I have asked and now that it is spring I need to ride.  Thanks brother.  TOM in Chicago

Answer
Tom,

the bolts that hold the switch on
are called "break off bolts"
The drive part breaks off when they
are installed.
You just chisel a small slot in them
and use an impact screwdriver or small
chisel to remove the bolts.

On some bikes the contact base on the rear
of the switch can only be removed
by turning the switch to the "park"
position. Of course without a key
this is not possible.
If it has screws just use a small chisel.
Maybe the locksmith can get the switch
turned to the park position?

Just record the wire colors
disconnect the battery,
and cut them a little ways from the switch
so you have some wire to work with
on reassembly.
Hopefully the locksmith can help
you get a key made and get
on the road again.
