Motorcycle Repair: 95 magna, honda magna, starter relay

Question
My 1995 Honda Magna all of a sudden quit starting. When I push the starter button, all I get is a clicking sound to the right under my seat. Can you tell me what it is and how I fix it?

Answer
Stuart,

that clicking sound is your starter relay switch.
It may be faulty or it may be your battery, starter or
wiring.

Get a test light or multimeter and connect
it to the starter cable terminal and the frame
or negative battery terminal.

You can see if power is getting
to the starter when you push the starter button.

If there is no power to the starter,
the battery, starter relay or wiring must be bad.

If you have power going to the starter
and it doesn't go then you may need
to rebuild the starter.

Try connecting a good battery directly
to the starter.

This all assumes you have a good fully
charged battery.
