Motorcycle Repair: 77 cb750k clutch loose on handle, clutch cable, clutch lever

Question
rode bike into my garage and noticed clutch cable loose on handlebar. of course I played with it and messed it up. As of now, the round adjuster came off of the small threaded metal piece(which the cable runs through, which I then unscrewed from the handle itself. Now, the clutch handle just flops around with no tension. help, please, I just can't figure it out

Answer
Dave, there are cable adjusters on both ends of the clutch cable. The cable adjuster on the handlebars has a slot to allow the cable to pass through the inner adjuster bolt and the outer locking nut. Aligning the slots up will allow the cable to be disconnected and reconnected again.

If the cable has lost it slack, either the cable has seized up internally or the return spring on the bottom end of the cable adjustment has broken.

for illustrations. Go to CLUTCH COVER section #5 to see the clutch lever return spring.

Most likely the cable has gotten frayed internally, seized up enough so there is little travel and just needs replacing.
