Motorcycle Repair: 87 flhtc clutch /cable adjustment, clutch cable, clutch lever

Question
I installed a new clutch cable and clutch lever has alot of play and is not springing back out. I have the cable adjustment out as far as it can go. Is there something inside the clutch housing I need to adjust first? If so, how? If I start it up and have in gear holding clutch in, bike still wants to barely roll (clutch is not disengaging completely) because of all the play in lever.
Thanks, Shane

Answer
Loosen the cable alot. With the bike sitting upright remove the derby cover. Under it you will see the clutch. In the center is the adjuster. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster screw outward. turn it inward, just until it bottom out and then out about 1/8 of a turn. Now go back and ajdust the cable so you hae about 1/8 inch of play.
Good luck and happy riding
