Question
Hello- I have an oil leak on my 1980 Honda CB900 Custom.  The oil is coming from a round plug on the front of the motor just under the cylinder head cover.  The place where the plug is located is round (part of the casting) and sticks out of the motor about 5/8".  The plug is pushed in flush with the casting.  As best as I can find out, that is part of the cam chain tensioner assembly and is called a seal plug.  I assume that the plug is dried out after all the years and letting oil seep out around it.  Can this plug be carefully pried out and the new one pressed in or does the cylinder head cover need to come off?  Thanks!

The 11.5x7 plug on the end of the camchain tensioner rod?  There is a separate part number for it and you should be able to remove the old one and push in a new one, if you can't coax the old one out without damaging it and use some oil resistant RTV silicone sealant to reseal the works... after you clean the oil out of the hole.

Make sure that the crankcase venting hoses are all working okay. If you pinch one off, the crankcase pressure builds up and starts pushing oil out any cracks, crevices and seals/gaskets.
