Motorcycle Repair: 1985 Magna v45 carb no power., honda magna v45, vacuum lines

Question
I just recently finished(almost) restoring a 1985 Honda Magna v45 700cc.  It is all stock, stock jetting and all i believe.  i put it all together and it runs without choke but when i give it a little gas it wants to die. If i roll the throttle very slowly i can get it up to about 2100 rpm for a few seconds before it starts to stutter..  could this be from the carbs being way out of sync?? I think maybe it is getting too much air and not enough fuel.?. if so, how would i fix that?

Answer
Luke, Is the bike warming up okay at idle? These bikes tended to be cold blooded, so choke is usually required for several minutes, especially underway.

Carbs DO need to be synchronized after removal and disassembly. Be sure that your fuel pump and filter are all clean and flowing well to the carbs.

Check for any vacuum lines that attach to the carbs, which may be leaking or misrouted to emission controls or elsewhere.

Something else to consider is to check for a good strong spark on all cylinders. V4s are affected by aging spark units, which can be repaired, in some cases. Weak spark units will cause a lot of headaches.

I have no idea of how you went about rebuilding your carbs and your level of expertise. They do need to be fully cleaned and inspected for any flaws or wear. Overlooking small details can cause a lot of problems, if you are not real savvy on these machines. Hopefully, rechecking your work, synchronizing the carbs and checking the other resources will get your problems sorted out completely.
