Motorcycle Repair: xs650 1983, yamaha xs650, bad god

Question
Hi Mitch, I have problems starting my Yamaha xs650 '83 after winter storage. It
has only a weak spark on one of the cylinders. Do you think I have to replace the
ignition coil (there is only one for both cylinders) or could the problem come
from an other part? Thank you for your advice! Michael.

Answer
hello michael,

what you should probably do,is check the wire coming from the coil to see if you have any damage to. it if not then i would have the coil checked . its very possible that the coil could be going out ,maybe due to being stored for awhile or just wear and tear ,i hope this helps you, but if one cylinder gets good fire and the other doesnt, i would lean towards saying your coil is bad. god bless if you need more advise dont hesitate to contact me again to follow up.

                      sincerely,
