Motorcycle Repair: electrial problems, yamaha xt500, fuse holder

Question
I just bought a 1977 yamaha xt500 and the signals horn and kill switch does not work any ideas what i can check. I checked the fuse and that is good also all the conections look good. Talked to the old owner he said the horn did work but the kill switch stop working last year sometime and he is unsure on the signals as he had them off the bike.

Answer
Jason,

while it could be separate problems with
each of these components, I suggest you
check the brown wire that goes to
the signal flasher. This wire
comes from the ignition switch and
should have power on it.

It also is the power to the horn at
some point. Check the connector
to the handlebar switch, could be a faulty switch.
It may be a bad wire, fuse holder or the ignition switch itself.
Check for any loss of power on the brown wire,
it may be brown and white on the flasher unit.
